Community Chest turns 70

To commemorate the ever-growing trend of #ThrowbackThursday, we decided to take a stroll down memory lane and take you through our 70th anniversary celebration, this celebration which was held on the 5th of May 2022 and like Tata Madiba once said “Remember to celebrate milestones as you prepare for the road ahead” we as Community Chest are huge believers in this saying as we believe the understanding and celebration of our history are important in guiding our path forward.

The day’s activities comprised of site visits to three of our beneficiaries and was capped off by a glitzy gala dinner. During these site visits we took our donors to meet our beneficiaries, for the first visit we made a stop at Likusasa Lumama which is in Kwadwesi. During this visit, our donors were treated to a tour of the facilities by the team from Likusasa Lumama , they were then debriefed on the various activities the organization had undertaken in the community and were also treated to testimonials highlighting the impact Likusasa Lumama  has made in the community. To conclude this visit, guests were gifted a vegetable bag comprised of produce sourced from their various vegetable gardens.  Our next stop was at Dorcas Poverty Alleviation, which is based in New Brighton, our donors were given a warm welcome by Esther who is in charge of operations, Esther then showcased some of the beautifully crafted garments made with yarn that was generously donated by Hinderveldt. The third and final stop was Haas Das Educare Centre which is based in Algoa Park, during this visit we interacted with the young children that the oranization looks after, we were then treated to a brief performance of the children singing and dancing to their favorite songs and were served cupcakes and juice to end the visit.

The day was capped off with the gala dinner hosted at the Kelway Hotel, this gala dinner was a white and sparkles themed event with guests being treated to champagne and various baked good sponsored by Bake Delicious Cakes and Bake and catering sponsored by Pick n Pay.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Blunden Coaches and FRN Risk management for providing transportation and security respectively during these festivities.
