Community Chest & DG Capital Mandela Day 2026
Community Chest & DG Capital Mandela Day 2026
Mandela Day calls on all of us to make a meaningful difference, and this year Community Chest, together with DG Capital, is driving two high-impact community projects in Gqeberha.
Heatherbank Primary School, based in Theescombe, serves approximately 280 children from Walmer Township. As a nonprofit institution, the school depends on donor support to maintain its facilities and provide a safe and inspiring learning environment. Mandela Day efforts will focus on painting and refurbishment, upgrading ablution facilities, and building a safe and engaging playground complete with new equipment and shaded areas. Additional contributions such as stationery, books, sports equipment, and support for a vegetable garden are also encouraged.
At Malabar Old Age Home, the focus shifts to dignity, comfort, and human connection. Volunteers will assist with repainting common areas, light maintenance, and creating a welcoming environment for residents. Just as importantly, teams will spend time engaging with residents through conversation, music, and shared activities. Donation packs including treats, toiletries, and warm essentials will further support residents’ daily needs.
Organisations can participate by sending volunteer teams, sponsoring materials, donating goods, or partnering with others for greater impact. Site walkthroughs can be arranged to align contributions with specific needs, ensuring every effort is both meaningful and measurable.

“Mandela Day is more than a moment. It is a movement of collective action. By coming together, we can create spaces of dignity for our elders and opportunity for our children, reminding every beneficiary that they are seen, valued, and supported.
How to Get Involved
Organisations and individuals are invited to participate in one of the following ways:
Register your interest by submitting your organisation name, number of volunteers, and preferred project
Attend a site walkthrough to identify where your team can make the greatest impact
Confirm your contribution, including materials, volunteer numbers, and logistics
Join us on Friday, 17 July 2026, for a coordinated day of service
Whether you contribute time, resources, or funding, your involvement will directly uplift communities in need.
